Stay safe on a gig
Community Gig connects neighbors. We do not come with you to the job, and we do not promise that anyone is safe. These are ordinary habits that help people look after themselves.
If you’re posting
- Meet during the day when you can, especially the first time.
- Tell a friend who is coming over, and about when you expect them to leave.
- Keep the first hello in a common area or on the stoop, not a back room.
- Don’t put your phone number, email, or address in the public listing or in Q&A. That waits until you pick someone.
- You can cancel. If a bid or a message feels off, pick someone else or take the gig down.
If you’re bidding
- Read the gig. If the job is inside a home, bring a friend if that would help you feel steady.
- Go when it’s light out if you can. Tell someone where you’re headed.
- Don’t share your number or a personal link in public Q&A.
- Leave if anything feels wrong. You do not have to finish a job that makes you uneasy.
ID checks
Some neighbors complete a Stripe Identity photo-ID check and show an “ID checked” badge for 12 months. Community Pros include that check as part of the Pro path. Anyone can also pay $3 for a mutual check at hire. That only means Stripe matched a photo ID. It is not a background check, and it does not mean someone is safe to invite in. Trust your gut either way.
If something goes wrong
Get to a safe place first. Call 911 if you need the police or medical help. Then email hello@communitygig.com so we can lock an account if we should.
